"I've got plenty to say: I’ve been standing here for over 600 years, after all.”
The Wall of The Sofa Workshop
Get a ringside seat on Chester’s history! This building stared life as a medieval hall occupied by a medical man: you can still see his coat of arms painted over the fireplace, incorporating a hand and a snake (the latter a medical symbol). In the 18th century, the hall became a public house called The Hand and Snake. One love-struck drinker left a line of graffiti on the upstairs window in 1736. Scratched onto the glass, you can still see his tribute to 'The charming Miss Oldfield'.
